Bay City Rollers are a British pop rock band from Edinburgh, Scotland, originally consisting of vocalist Les McKeown, guitarist Stuart John Wood, and bass player Alan Longmuir.
Formed in 1966, the band released their debut album, ‘Rollin'’ in 1974, which hit #1 in the UK Albums Chart. In their heyday in the mid 1970s, they sold 120 million records and had hits such as Bye Bye Baby and Shang-a-Lang, and were famed for their tartan outfits.
McKeown left the band in 1978, and various members of the band continued to tour under various different associated names. McKeown later toured under the name of Les McKeown's Bay City Rollers, not affiliated with the original line-up, and took the show all over the US, Australia, UK and Ireland.
Alan Longmuir passed away in 2018 and McKeown in 2021. Wood is continuing the band with Ian Thomson on lead vocals and guitar, Marcus Cordock on bass, and Jamie McGrory on drums.
