57 North parent organisation shmu has been awarded £30,000 in funding from Creative Scotland’s Youth Arts Access Fund to reinstate music programmes for young people throughout the organisation.

The new ‘Making Waves’ project at shmu will support a range of opportunities, including one-to-one and group music-making for young people aged 11-25.

The funding will also expand music activities for those involved in shmu’s Youth Media and employability programmes, as well as the introduction of programmes of music making for under 25's in HMP Grampian and a post-release project for young adults with involvement in community justice.

A total of 87 projects across Scotland received a share of more than £2m through the Youth Arts Access Fund, which supports organisations delivering projects across a wide range of artforms to children and young people.

Murray Dawson, shmu Chief Executive, said “There is a huge amount of excitement about the return of music-making to shmu as it’s an area of work that we haven’t had funding to support for a number of years now. It’s a fantastic platform for creative expression and I can’t wait to see (and hear) the results.”
