soundfestival 2018 highlights announced

Scotland’s Festival of New Music soundfestival have revealed details of their 2018 event, which takes place from 24 October-4 November across North East Scotland.
This year’s festival will explore new music for viola and much more.
Highlights will include leading composer, Sally Beamish, not only writing a new work for six violas but also performing in its World Premiere. This new work is being written to accompany a performance of Garth Knox’s Ockeghem Fantasy (for viola d’amore and five violas) which will see, Garth Knox, one of the foremost viola payers of his generation, performing the viola d’amore solo.
Garth Knox will also be in residence throughout the 2018 soundfestival and will give a number of performances including the UK Premiere of a work for viola d’amore by Oscar Stasnoy co-commissioned by sound and Donaueschinger Music Festival.
The concert featuring sound's Associate Ensemble, Red Note, will also include the Scottish Premiere of James Dillon's “ground-breaking” Tanz/haus Triptych 2017 which was co-commissioned by sound, Red Note Ensemble, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Transit and November Music, and recently won a Royal Philharmonic Society Award in the Chamber-Scale Composition category.
