Youth Music Delivery – Advice and resources
Tuesday 5th January 2021
Here are a few links with some advice and resources that might be of use to people planning or delivering youth music activity at the moment.
If you know of a good resource we should highlight then let us know. You can email the Aberdeen Youth Music Forum Coordinator or connect with us on Facebook or Twitter.
Working safely:
Creating Safety - child protection and safeguarding guidance for individuals and organisations involved in delivering artistic, cultural and creative projects for or with children and young people in Scotland. Developed by Creative Scotland and Children in Scotland.
Undertaking remote teaching safely - from the NSPCC
Safeguarding when teaching online - from the MU
Private Music Teaching health & safety advice and updates on easing of lockdown restrictions - from the ISM
Risk Assessment advice and templates to support activity in the informal sector can be found here from Youth Scotland, here from the ISM, and here from Sound Sense
Professional Development Opportunities / Suggestions for Practice:
Music Education Partnership Group (MEPG) have arranged a series of free CPD workshops on the various online platforms and some on musical content. Check them out here. The programme is underway now.
MEPG have also been publishing research into what has been happening across music education in Scotland during this year. Find out more about their findings here.
Lots of youth music organisations are also sharing resources and hosting webinars. We’ve found some of these useful:
NYMAZ - Connect Resound project
Tinderbox Collective guide to using Zoom for youth music delivery
Youth Music Network coronavirus resource hub
Financial & Other Support:
Information about the Creative Scotland Hardship Fund for Creative Freelancers is here.
Information from Help Musicians can be found here, and they also run the Music Minds Matter site.
You can see Help Musicians discuss their different forms of support with 57 North in a Facebook Live event earlier in November - the video is available to watch here.
All of the links provided have resources available to non-members, particularly related to Covid-19 responses and restrictions.
Let us know if you see something other youth music practitioners should know about and join the monthly online discussions. More information about those is here.
